What Your Horse Really Wants

Did you know that connection and relationship are the most important things to your horse? Even more important than food?

Wild horses thrive because they are connected as a community, for the good of all. Their survival depends upon it. It’s hardwired.

Horses connect on a very deep level. In fact, they connect by sensing electromagnetic fields. They can sense each other’s emotions through the electromagnetic fields created by their hearts and the electromagnetic fields of what’s in their environment.

Seriously – it is so much more than body language alone. (This is scientifically proven by the way). Horses are so exquisitely attuned to their environment, they can sense a hidden mountain lion and tell if it’s hungry or not.

They choose to either flee or go right back to grazing. Their emotions provide valuable, life-saving and life-thriving information. They don’t get trapped in them or taken out of the present moment by them, and they certainly don’t resist them. They physically feel the sensations the emotion creates in their body and respond appropriately – they deal with it. Then they are done and go right back to grazing. That’s how they stay present, connected and safe. There is no confusion. No second-guessing. It is all very clear.

And your horse wants this connection with YOU! More than treats and more than any type of horsemanship could offer. This hardwired, emotionally aware present moment connection is what they want you to bring into the relationship. Your horse wants nothing more than an authentic connection with you.

And guess what? Humans are programmed to connect, just like the horse. We survived as a species because of this same ability to process our own emotions as information and read the emotions of others through electromagnetic fields.

And guess what? Humans are programmed to connect, just like the horse. We survived as a species because of this same ability to process our own emotions as information and read the emotions of others through electromagnetic fields.

Honestly, think about it, we have all walked into a room full of good vibes, and the air seems electrified! Or we have walked into a room (say a doctor’s waiting room) and the air is so tense you can hardly breathe. We can physically feel it! It’s our long-forgotten emotional instincts kicking in. Deep down, we still instinctively know how to process our emotions and get right back to “grazing,” just like the horse.

Listening to our instinctive emotions is how we evolved and survived in a hostile world. Imagine if our ancestors never felt fear? They would have been easy prey for the saber tooth tiger. Without this high level of self-awareness around our emotions and an acute awareness of our surrounding environment, we would have become extinct.

Somewhere along the evolutionary lines, we lost this valuable connection with our emotional instincts, and nowadays, unlike the horse, most humans are unable to be in the present moment. We are stuck in the past or anxious about the future.

Have you ever wondered why it is so hard for us to be present?

I believe it’s three main things:

We stopped using our emotional instincts. We stopped using our emotions as information, and we have lost the skill of letting them flow. The world we live in has changed so rapidly over such a short period of time that our brains have not adjusted. Uncertain, we stifle our emotions. Stress, anxiety, fear, and depression have become the new norm.

We no longer know how to get back to grazing. We learn to react, resist, and avoid our emotions early in life. Our brain simply accepts these thought and emotional patterns. It’s completely unconscious and becomes our automatic default – no questions asked.

Social conditioning It gets inside our brains and actually changes how we think about our lives and ourselves. It buries our authenticity and has us unconsciously chasing our tails. Social conditioning distances us from who we truly are and where our hearts want to go. And the real kicker is that we don’t even know it’s there.

Inner critic That voice inside our head quietly undermining everything we do. Whispering that we’re doing it wrong, and we will never get it right. That voice has us believing we will never be enough.

All this babbling in our mind and lack of emotional flow keeps us from living fully in the present moment and prevents us from deeply and genuinely connecting to ourselves and to our horse. We are unconsciously distracted in our minds with unprocessed emotions, social conditioning, and self-critical talk. We can connect, but how truly present are we? How present are we with our horses?

When we interact with our horses with a distracted mind, the electromagnetic field we project is confusing to our horses. We lack the clarity and the presence necessary for the true connection your horse wants in the relationship. Confused your horse may check out and do what you want because they have no other choice. They comply, but that is not a genuine connection.

But, when you develop a deep relationship with yourself, and you know how to let your emotions flow – leading you into the present moment – you’ll see your horse and your horse will see you.

We are hardwired for deep and genuine connection, just like wild horses. We can learn to rekindle our emotional instincts. We can rediscover our true self and unleash a richness of life, just waiting to flourish.

We are designed to live fully in the present moment, to be creative, to look for what’s possible, to use our imagination, to listen to our inner wisdom, to graze, and to dream!

Discover the deep inner peace and joy that only present moment connection can create.
